Position Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in facilitating health optimization, illness prevention, and the alleviation of suffering through a comprehensive approach to patient care. The RN will engage in the diagnosis and treatment of human responses while advocating for the well-being of individuals and families. This position demands adherence to established standards of practice and a commitment to ongoing professional development, aligned with the Nurse Practice Act and relevant healthcare regulations.
Job Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care while managing a group of patients.
- Serve as a primary and accountable nurse as designated by unit assignment.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management utilizing available resources.
- Administer medications safely, adhering to organizational policies and regulations.
- Ensure effective resource utilization including staffing, time management, supplies, and services while supporting productivity.
- Comply with nursing practice standards, regulations, and organizational policies.
- Engage in and support the Nursing Shared Governance Model through participation in councils and improvement initiatives.
- Commit to professional development and meet all educational requirements.
- Incorporate nursing research and current evidence into practice.
- Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
- Adhere to organizational values and perform any additional duties as assigned.
Schedule
This role involves working 12-hour night shifts, totaling 36 hours per week, and requires availability for every other weekend. The position is contracted for a duration of 13 weeks.
Requirements
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of six (6) months to three (3) years of nursing (RN) experience.
- Management experience is not required but can be beneficial.
- Five (5) or more years of direct nursing experience is preferred.
- Strong collaboration, communication (both verbal and written), critical thinking, organizational understanding, planning, problem-solving, quality, reliability, and safety/risk management skills.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing is required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing is preferred.
Certifications and Licensure
- Current New York State RN License is essential.
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association, Health and Safety Institute, or American Red Cross) is required.
- Additional unit-specific requirements may apply.
- Professional certification in a related nursing specialty and relevant skills certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) are preferred.
