Shift Details

Evening Shift: 8×5 schedule, 40 hours per week (3 PM – 11:30 PM)

Department

Medical/Surgical and Orthopedic Unit specializing in total joint procedures such as knee and hip replacements, as well as spine and other related surgeries.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in promoting health and optimizing patient abilities. This position involves preventing illness and injury, alleviating suffering, and advocating for individuals and families in need of care. The RN is accountable for adhering to all standards of practice and professional development in line with the Nurse Practice Act, nursing policies, and ethical guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate patient care while managing a group of patients.
  • Serve as a primary and accountable nurse based on unit assignment and considerations regarding safety and effective care.
  • Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management utilizing available resources.
  • Administer medications safely with a working knowledge of pharmacology in accordance with nursing policies.
  • Contribute to effective resource utilization, including staffing and time management.
  • Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
  • Participate actively in shared governance, improvement initiatives, and peer review processes.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and complete mandatory education requirements.
  • Integrate nursing research and current evidence into practice.
  • Provide a supportive learning environment for new staff and students.
  • Uphold the organization’s core values and perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

Required Skills

  • Six (6) months to three (3) years of nursing (RN) experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of direct nursing experience.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Effective judgment and critical thinking abilities.
  • Organizational skills, planning, and time management.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to quality, reliability, and safety.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Education

Required Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Certifications and Licensure

Required Certifications

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse License.
  • BLS Certification from AHA, HSI, or the American Red Cross.
  • Additional unit-specific requirements per compliance matrix.

Preferred Certifications

  • Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
  • Relevant skills certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required for assigned unit.
