Position: OB Technician

Shift Details

Schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Work Pattern: 3 x 12-hour shifts, every other weekend required, and 3 out of 6 holidays required.

Job Summary

The OB Technician is responsible for performing assigned duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in the Surgical Suite. This position requires a multi-skilled worker capable of providing both direct and indirect care to antepartum and postpartum patients while ensuring a clean and organized environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff with direct and indirect patient care, following the care plan as directed by the RN.
• Order and stock supplies for the Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Labor Rooms, and related areas.
• Maintain readiness of instruments and supplies for procedures including Cesarean Sections and Hysterectomies.
• Adhere to sterile techniques in the operative area, including proper scrub, gown, and glove techniques.
• Support the surgeon during procedures and assist with instrument passing, while ensuring accurate sponge and instrument counts.
• Communicate patient information and potential issues to the nursing staff throughout the shift.
• Respond promptly to patient and family requests and assist with their needs.
• Ensure patient belongings are securely stored and properly labeled during discharge, transfer, or when a patient has expired.
• Demonstrate calmness and sound judgment during emergency situations, assisting in crisis management as needed.
• Ensure the proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, making them available for use.
• Follow regulations, policies, and procedures to support safe patient outcomes while practicing with professionalism and ethical standards.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as an OB Technician or Surgical Technician in an acute care setting.

Education

• Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Certifications & Licensure

• Must be a Certified OB Technician.
• Must have BLS Certification (AHA).
