Job Opportunity

Position: Surgical Technician I

Location: Endoscopy Department, City, State

Schedule

  • Shift: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts
  • 13-week assignment
  • Weekends and holidays as needed
  • On-call requirement: 2-3 days a week (both weekend and weekday)

Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist I is responsible for cleaning and handling surgical instruments in accordance with standard policies while maintaining up-to-date records.

Essential Job Functions

  • Standardizes set-ups according to surgeon preferences and ensures the proper care and handling of instruments.
  • Organizes all instrumentation before returning it to the decontamination room and returning clean supplies to designated areas.
  • Maintains accurate counts of sponges, needles, instruments, and administers and labels medications according to established procedures.
  • Handles specimens according to the Operating Room (O.R.) Policies and Procedures.
  • Mitigates contamination by providing for the decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and sanitation of instruments and equipment.
  • Removes used equipment and disposes of contaminated needles and syringes after procedures.
  • Participates in team conferences to plan and evaluate the effectiveness of patient care, assisting the circulator in revising care plans as needed.
  • Keeps the Surgical Technologist skills proficiency checklist up to date by documenting equipment and case experiences and rotating through specialty areas.
  • Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 400 lbs., and stands for the duration of the shift.
  • Identifies and meets the needs of the patient population served, modifying and delivering care based on individual factors such as age, culture, language, and sensory impairments.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their level of understanding.
  • Adheres to established standards and competencies of the Medical Center.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience as a Surgical Technician required.
  • Prior Endoscopy experience required, including Bronchoscopy, ERCP, EUS, and scope processing.

Education Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or appropriate training program is required.

Certifications and Licensure

  • Professional certification by the AST is preferred.

40 hours per week
