REQUIRED: High School diploma or equivalent. PREFERRED: Associates degree in a chemical, phuysical, or biological science. REQUIRED: Six months’ experience working in a clinical laboratory testing environment – preferably in a microbiology environment.. PREFERRED: One year’s experience working in a clinical laboratory testing environment – preferably microbiology. Performs all processes associated with moderate complexity testing only (pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical) according to established laboratory policies and procedures. Performs all processes associated with specimens received into the laboratory. Includes reviewing the test order electronically or manually, ensuring patient labeling and positive patient identification, accessioning specimens into the laboratory information system, assessing specimen acceptability for testing ordered, and processing the specimen according to the test requirements. Performs and documents equipment start up procedures, routine instrument maintenance, and quality control testing to ensure accuracy of specimen testing. Practices effective and efficient use of supplies and reagents and actively participate in inventory control. Prioritizes assigned duties and workload to ensure completion meets established laboratory turnaround times. Completes required annual competencies for test systems by specified due date. Completes annual continuing education assignments by due date. Complies with all regulatory standards. Maintains knowledge of, demonstrates, and adheres to hospital and laboratory safety and compliance policies and procedures.
